From The Hellfire Club (Egg Box 2005)
Welcome.
Leave your coats at the door,
give the speaker the floor
and solicit no whores before ten,
when the men have all safely retired
for fat bulbs of port by the drawing room fire,
their whiskers to gravely, sagaciously rub.
Welcome, my friends, to The Hellfire Club.
(From Live From The Hellfire Club by Joel Stickley)
Aisle16
was created for a new breed of British poetry.
The
Aisle16 style is a mutant hybrid of the highs and lows of
modern culture: accessible, acerbic, beautiful and funny.
After
four years ranting, spitting, flirting and strutting at the
microphones of some of the UK’s most disreputable venues
they’ve put pen to paper to produce the most exciting
poetry collection of 2005. The Hellfire Club has a new resident
band.
Live
From The Hellfire Club is published by Egg Box, the
UK’s boldest new publishing house, and features over
sixty of the best Aisle16 poems with illustrations by graphic
artist Sam Ratcliffe. The astute combination of barbed literature
and beautifully grotesque illustration will establish Aisle16
as a serious literary force as well as the UK’s most
sought after live poetry act.
