Think you know what that is? Think again. This isn’t
a showcase for nervous performers reading their innermost,
Aisle16 take a switchblade to any pre-conceptions of poetry
as a stale and inaccessible art form and highlight the stale
inaccessible nonsense of corporate communication. And they’ll
make you laugh whilst they’re doing it.
Powerpoint totally re-invents the live poetry show and confirms
Aisle16 as the market-leaders. It presents the hard-edged,
energetic and satirical spoken word of Aisle16 in that least
poetic of contexts, the business presentation. Aisle16’s
big bad Powerpoint will inspire audiences, raise public stock,
quadruple profits and kiss the girls. It’s Wordsworth
on the Enron payroll with punchlines, caffeine and the highest
blood pressure this side of the Square Mile. The only thing
separating Byron and Elvis was marketing. Are you a winner?
Come win with us.
“Using
a PowerPoint slide show, these young bucks take it in turns
to tear strips off the mores of modern corporations, with
biting, sometimes surreal, quips all masquerading as instructions
at a pyramid sales seminar. It is razorsharp stuff, both visually
and aurally arresting, and not lacking of moments of pure
genius ... Don’t miss this and mark Aisle16 out as ones
to watch.” Metro
Powerpoint was premiered at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe Festival
to critical acclaim and sell out audiences. It was the high-grossing
show in The Pleasance Joker Dome and enjoyed higher audience
figures than any other poetry show at the Fringe. In July
it was selected by Time Out and Fest as one of the top 12
Theatre Highlights in their preview booklet.
In 2005 the bigger, better Powerpoint Version 2.0 played a
three week residency at The Old Red Lion, Islington, London.
The show was a run away success, selling out the last two
weeks and receiving excellent reviews, and CRITICS’
CHOICE in Time Out.
“Firmly
slamming the door on any preconceptions of rhyme ... the revolution
is upon us, and these rebels with a cause are leading the
way.” ***** Threeweeks
“You
don’t see many five star reviews for poetry gigs but
Aisle16 take the genre to a whole new level ... Genius.”
***** Scotsgay
“Prodigiously
talented, unapologetically ambitious and bullet-proof confident,
I can guarantee you’ll be hearing a lot more of Aisle16
real soon.” The Scotsman
“This is a sharp production conceived with with
enoughcare and zeitgeisty energy to earn it a place in the
West End.” Ham & High
"These hard hitting performance poets hardly need
to add visual jokes, but diagrams and flow charts are deployed
with deadly effect to stoke up the satire. Compelling viewing
for all inside and outside the corporate equation.”
